DeepSeek AI Security Raises Concerns, US May Restrict Its Use

Artificial intelligence company DeepSeek has come under scrutiny in the US, facing concerns over the security of its AI models and potential ties to the Chinese government.

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei revealed that DeepSeek’s R1 model generated rare information about biological weapons during a safety test conducted by Anthropic. Amodei suggested that DeepSeek may be joining the ranks of major AI companies like Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, Meta, and xAI. This test result has sparked worries about the safety of DeepSeek’s models.

DeepSeek, a Chinese AI company, has garnered significant attention in the industry for its AI models. However, the controversy surrounding its model security and data privacy issues could significantly impact its development in the US and global markets.

Beyond DeepSeek, OpenAI also faces trademark infringement allegations. Open Artificial Intelligence Inc. has sued OpenAI for violating its “Open AI” trademark. Federal Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers rejected OpenAI’s motion to dismiss the claims, finding that Open Artificial Intelligence sufficiently demonstrated that OpenAI’s branding caused consumer confusion. The judge cited user emails in her ruling, stating that users believed the company was associated with OpenAI, and its website traffic increased after OpenAI announced ChatGPT.

Furthermore, OpenAI recently unveiled a new brand logo, aiming to convey “the fluidity and warmth of human-centered thinking” while incorporating “the precision and structure demanded by technology” through right angles. Caroline Fox, creative director at design and creative studio 20Something, believes OpenAI’s logo is “an impressive example of product-first brand design, a comprehensive and cohesive evolution.”

This series of events highlights that the AI field faces not only technical challenges but also multifaceted hurdles related to security, law, and branding. As AI technology rapidly advances, regulatory scrutiny and oversight will likely intensify.
